ZAGREB, 26 November 2009 – Today, President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić received the delegation of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) from Ljubljana comprising its directors Zijad Bećirović and Bakhatyar Aljaf and member of the Institute Council Janez Škrabec.
During the talks the delegation presented the Institute’s work and its activities planned for the future period. They expressed interest in President Mesić’s position on open issues in the Balkan and Middle East regions as well as on certain global issues.
The visit ended with the bestowal of the title „Honorary President of the Council of IFIMES International Institute“ which the Institute conferred on President Mesić on 6 November 2009 for his extraordinary contribution to the affirmation of positive values in the Middle East and Balkan regions. President Mesić was invited to deliver a lecture at the Institute, which he accepted with pleasure.
