PRESS RELEASE
IFIMES member Dr. Daria Daniels Škodnik elected new Dean of NATO Defense College
LJUBLJANA, October 11, 2013 – In end-September 2013 a long-year member of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) fromLjubljana Dr. Daria Daniels Škodnik was elected Dean of the NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome, Italy, by the NATO Military Committee and 28 member states.
Dr. Daniels Škodnik is the first woman to take over this position after over 60 years of existence of this leading NATO strategic educational institution. Bearing in mind that until now the dean function at NDC was mostly carried out by the US representatives, the election of Dr. Daniels Škodnik represents a recognition to the Republic of Slovenia and a sign of trust that members of Slovenian Ministry of Defence can assume command positions in NATO.
We wish our colleague Dr. Daniels Škodnik a lot of success in performing this demanding task.
