LJUBLJANA, 25 November 2011 - At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Federal Communications Agency, Director of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) from Ljubljana Zijad Bećirović participated at the international conference entitled "Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism" which was held on 24-25 November in Paris. Mr. Bećirović delivered a speech on "Media and the Rule of Law". His IFIMES International Institute was also the media partner of the conference.
The main topics of the conference were:
• National interests and international journalism
• Access to information issues experienced by media representatives in Russia and in Europe
• The part mass media play in international relations and the effect it has on them
• International journalism: international law and common ethical best standards
The conference was opened by Honorary President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Member of the Portuguese Parliament João Soares and editor-in-chief of the magazine "Mezhdunarodnaya zhizn" ("International life") from Moscow Armen Oganessian.
