December 15, 2016 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Universal Peace Federation (UPF), in partnership with the International Institute for Middle East and Balkans Studies (IFIMES) and the Association for BiH-Asia Cooperation, Understanding and Sophistication (ABACUS), extends a cordial invitation to you to attend and speak at a conference in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on December 15, 2016 on the theme “Social consensus, interreligious understanding and regional cooperation for a new Europe”.
The Universal Peace Federation, an NGO with consultative status at the UN ECOSOC, has organized and supported over the years a great number of interreligious events throughout the world, promoting the interaction of religious and secular perspectives in the process of peace and reconciliation.
During a recent international conference convened in London in September 2016, attended by parliamentarians, religious leaders and civil society leaders from Europe, the Middle East and Eurasia, the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace was launched at the British Parliament. This UPF initiative is meant to provide a forum for parliamentarians to bring their experience and wisdom to bear in the search for solutions to our world’s critical problems.
Furthering this discussion within the Euro-Mediterranean theatre and the Balkans, the Sarajevo meeting will gather decision makers, parliamentarians and representatives from faith-based organization and NGOs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, to address legacies of the past, current challenges and future perspectives.
As interreligious cooperation within the Balkan region provides a unique opportunity for Europe, we would be greatly honoured if you could be a keynote speaker on the first panel themed “Interreligious Council – model for peace and reconciliation in Europe”.
