CROATIAN-SLOVENIAN RELATIONS – CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

Today, 17 February 2009, the round table on the relations between Croatia and Slovenia was held at the European Movement Croatia in Zagreb, organised by the Political Science Research Centre, Zagreb, and the Scientific Forum, Zagreb. The round table was attended by Croatian and Slovenian experts in the fields of political science and law. The aim of the round table was to provide room for expressing different opinions on the current open questions regarding Slovenian-Croatian relations as well as to encourage dialogue between the experts from both states in order to create the possibilities for tolerant and pluralistic communication.
The theme of the round table was divided into two levels, the first dealing with bilateral relations between Croatia and Slovenia and the second covering Croatia in the EU integration process from the view of relations between the two states.

The round table was attended also by Zijad Bećirović, Director of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) from Ljubljana, who delivered the introductory speech on the topic "Croatia in the EU integration process from the view of relations between the two states".

After some very interesting introductory speeches a rich discussion followed, on the basis of which the conclusions of the round table were drawn up. The conclusions were sent to all important addressees which directly or indirectly participate in resolving the open questions between Croatia and Slovenia.
