Discussion

SCOPE OF DISCUSSION:

In the last two decades, Indonesia has had experiences resolving internal conflict on its territory and mediating conflict resolution in the region of Southeast Asia, including the Aceh Peace Agreement, the Cambodia peace process, and the Mindanao peace process. In the same period of time, Slovenia has also had experiences and witnessed conflict resolution in its own region. The democratic values that the two countries are bound by have provided them with a strong conviction that a security-focused approach to conflict resolution is inadequate, as it fails to address the underlying grievances that drive them, and therefore would at best contain the violence until such time as it re-emerges, or at worst would intensify the conflicts. These similarities of situation, experience and values between the two countries certainly present a good basis to exchange experiences and lesson learned in the conflict resolution.

1. Experiences in different types of conflict resolutions in the Balkans and Indonesia.
2. The role of state and societies in resolving the conflicts?
3. Best practices in conflict resolution.
4. Typical and common difficulties/obstacles faced in conflict resolution
5. Lessons learned in conflict resolution

The official language of the seminar is English. The event will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Milan Jazbec.
