Ukraine – a challenge for the European continent?

In the framework of the "Slovenia and the EU" lecture cycle

the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES)

invites You kindly to the round table

entitled

UKRAINE – A CHALLENGE FOR THE EUROPEAN CONTINENT?

which will take place on Monday, 19 May 2014 at 14.00 h

in the “Grad” hall of Hotel Lev (13th floor) at Vošnjakova 1, Ljubljana.

Current events in Ukraine have aroused grave concern among the European public and represent a real challenge for the European continent, especially for the EU. Has the EU learnt the Balkan lesson from 1990s? Will Ukraine repeat the Yugoslavian scenario? What are the possible economic consequences of the Ukraine crisis and how can that affect trade relations between the EU and the Russian Federation? What role do the USA and UN play? Have the EU, USA and UN once again failed to react properly? What is Slovenia's position in all this and what will be the eventual political and economic consequences of the crisis for Slovenia?

Those and other issues will be discussed at the round table by the following experts:

● Branko Soban, a journalist and long-standing Russia and Middle East correspondent for the Delo daily newspaper,

● Dušan Olaj, the founder and director of the Duol company and the President of the Slovenian-Ukrainian Business Council, and

Jelko Kacin (ALDE/LDS), MEP, Vice-Chair of EP Delegation for relations with South-East Europe, member of Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and EP Rapporteur for Serbia.

The round table will be held in the Slovenian language and moderated by Zijad Bećirović.
