President of the Republic of North Macedonia
H.E. Prof. Dr. Stevo Pendarovski was born on 3 April 1963 in Skopje. He graduated in 1987 at the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus”, University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”, Skopje and obtained M.A. and Ph.D. from the Institute for Political, Legal and Sociological Research, University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”. In the past 11 years he was a Professor at the UACS School of Political Science, lecturing the following subjects: International Security, International Relations, Introduction to Politics, Globalization, Geopolitics, US Foreign policy, EU Foreign and Security policy, Small States in World Affairs. In the period 1998 – 2001 he was Head of Analytical and Research Department in the Ministry of Interior and ministry’s spokesperson.
From 2001 to 2004 he was National Security Advisor of the President of the Republic of Macedonia. From 2004 to 2005 he was President of the State Election Commission. In the period 2005 to 2009 he had position Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the Republic of Macedonia. From 2016 to 2017 he was Member of Parliament. From December 2017 till May 2019 he was National Coordinator for preparation of the Republic of North Macedonia for NATO membership.
His key commitments as the President of the Republic of North Macedonia are: to be the president of all citizens, to support political dialogue, to be available and in constant communication with citizens.
In his lecture our guest will talk about current developments in North Macedonia and about the future of North Macedonia on the way to EU and NATO and how to step up the integration to EU and regional and neighborly cooperation.
President Pendarovski believes that the function of the President of the state is not only the highest function according to the constitution. Being a President means uniting, not dividing, encouraging togetherness and mutual understanding. Being a President means courage and determination to make difficult decisions, to be the pride of the citizens. The President connects all citizens who live in the country, works for the citizens, serves his people, expertly, honestly and fairly, connects citizens regardless of their ethnic, religious, social or other origin.
The lecture will be delivered in English and will be followed by a discussion with the guest lecturer moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Zijad Bećirović and Bakhatyar Aljaf.
