In the framework of the “The Middle East and the world” lecture cycle The International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) Invites You kindly to take part at the round table entitled Recent Events in the Middle East – what’s next? on Wednesday, 22 January 2020 at 16.00, Grand Hotel Union Business, hall »Orchid«, Miklošičeva 3, Ljubljana.
The Middle East is once again in the spotlight, especially after the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Republican Guard, in Baghdad. The Iranian response to the assassination - the launching of the missiles strikes on US airbases in Iraq, contributed to the aggravation of the situation. Will there be a war between the United States and Iran that has been predicted since 1979? How do recent events in the Middle East affect developments in the world and the rival regional powers, notably the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and Israel? These events will deepen disagreements and mistrust between key players in the Middle East. In such a context, can the superpowers find a solution to the many wars in this turbulent region? How will all this affect the US presidential election this fall? What’s next?
These important questions will be discussed by our guests:
The round table and the discussion will be in Slovene moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Zijad Bećirović, Director of IFIMES.
